The new Dodge Charger Daytona will get solid-state batteries in 2026
Well, kinda... a demo fleet of new Chargers will showcase 390Wh/kg power-dense EV battery tech
As we await the imminent arrival of the new all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona, Stellantis has confirmed there'll be a fleet of them with solid-state batteries from 2026.
Provided by Factorial, we're told the batteries are going to be awesomely energy dense. That means the cells will hold plenty of power – over 390Wh/kg, to be more precise. To put that into context, today’s EVs range from 90-255Wh/kg.
This isn't the first time we've heard about the Charger's bid to be the Most-Unlikely-Car-To-Become-An-EV or Factorial, its battery specialist. You might recall Merc making solid-state plans with the latter back in September. And yes, it's taking us a bit of time to get used to the Charger being electrified, even when it does still sound like this.
Speaking of moving, such energy density means the test Chargers will be able to go further and/or have fewer battery cells, theoretically making a production version cheaper to produce/buy. Stellantis, Dodge’s parent company, reckons the fleet will demonstrate the batteries’ capability in real-world driving conditions.
"By integrating Factorial’s innovative battery solution into the STLA Large platform, we are validating its potential to enhance our electric vehicle lineup, ensuring customers benefit from improved performance, longer driving ranges and faster charging times in the coming years," said Ned Curic, Stellantis’ chief for engineering and tech.
Curic doesn't say any more about any other models that could get solid-state tech, but we understand that if successful, it'll be applied to other marques within the Stellantis family, including Jeep, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo and Maserati.
