This is the new 335bhp Volkswagen ID.7 GTX saloon
All-electric sports saloon gets all-wheel drive and a new 86kWh battery
This is the all-new, 335bhp all-wheel drive Volkswagen ID.7 GTX, and if you’re having a strange sense of déjà vu then don’t be alarmed. We saw the all-new, 335bhp all-wheel drive ID.7 GTX Tourer back in March, but that was the estate, this is the saloon/hatch thing. Huge difference.
There’s the amount of boot space available in each for one, and the different styling at the rear and erm… well, that’s about it actually. The newly unveiled saloon gets the same twin-motor powertrain as the estate, the same GTX-specific front end, the same red-accented interior and the same 20in wheels. It’ll be available in five different colours and VW says a new 21in wheel design will be available as an option in the near future.
The GTX also gets its own daytime running lights up front to separate it from the standard ID.7, and there’s a honeycomb grille, LED matrix headlights and standard light-up VW logos. The roof is all black with outer strips in matte silver.
The tri-motor setup includes a 282bhp unit on the rear axle and one with 107bhp on the front axle. Clearly, they can’t use all of that electric grunt at the same time, so max power is 335bhp and top speed is limited to 112mph. The 0-62mph sprint takes less than six seconds and the battery is a new, larger 86kWh unit that can rapid charge at 200kW. Nice. No range figure quoted just yet though.
Anyway, that’s about it for details right now. Reckon this is a new era for the sports saloon?
