The new 2,078bhp Rimac Nevera R will do 0-186mph in 8.66s
Croatia’s hypercar gets more power, more advanced brakes and more aero
Are you a Rimac Nevera owner? Do you find that your 1,888bhp electric hypercar is a little… slow? Are you sure that you’re okay after that bump on the head?
If the answer to all three of those questions is yes, may we present to you the new and improved Rimac Nevera R.
Just 40 examples of the Nevera R will be built, and we’re told that it’s designed to be ‘the aggressive alter ego to the Nevera’. To that end, it uses a new, next generation 108kWh battery pack that’s lighter and more efficient than the one in the ‘standard’ car. It’s also capable of coping with more power, so there’s now 2,078bhp on tap and updated torque vectoring to split that power between all four wheels. Good grief.
So yeah, this thing is even faster than before. Like the standard Nevera, it’ll do 0-62mph in 1.81s, but unlike the standard car it’ll reach 186mph (300kph) in 8.66s rather than 9.22s. Important because we know how often you’re doing that 0-186mph sprint.
Thankfully, Rimac has also fitted new brakes to help slow the Nevera R down. They’re carbon ceramics with a silicone matrix layer to improve stopping performance, cooling and durability.
The Nevera R also gets a full aero kit with a fixed rear wing. We’re told that downforce has been upped by 15 per cent, while understeer is reduced by 10 per cent thanks in part to the new Michelin Cup 2 tyres. There should be better steering feel too, while the traction control has been refined, the drift mode has been adjusted and the time it takes to get around the Nardo Handling Track has been reduced by 3.8 seconds.
“When we developed the Nevera, an important part of the brief was that it should be a Grand Tourer,” says Mate Rimac.
“We made sure it was spacious, comfortable and finely balanced between thrilling and accessible. Ultimately what we achieved struck that balance perfectly; a high-performance record-breaking car that could set new benchmarks at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and be driven comfortably thousands of miles across continents. It was a watershed moment in automotive performance; the world’s first production all-electric hypercar, single-handedly leading a new generation.
“But we’re relentlessly tweaking to customers’ desires, and many were looking for a car that really emphasised the Nevera’s cornering ability, using all the advanced technology on-board. We responded with the Nevera R: all the DNA of the record-breaking Nevera, but lighter, faster and more focused.”
