The Mercedes EQE SUV starts at over £90,000
Yikes. Merc's fifth all-electric SUV is now on sale, but it'll set you back a large chunk of change
Merc’s latest luxury EV has hit the forecourt. The Mercedes Benz EQE SUV is the brand’s fifth all-electric SUV and it certainly won't come cheap, but it does feature a remarkable amount of cutting-edge tech and fancy stuff synonymous with the Benz brand.
Starting at £90,560, the EQE SUV comes with two powertrains to choose from, a 350 4Matic and 500 4Matic. Both all-wheel-drive, the 350 is capable of 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds and manages 334 miles from its 89kWh battery. The 500 covers 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds with 324 miles of range - though the brand is keen to stress the range ‘varies by model’. By driver and weather too, so we’ve been told…
Anyway, both support 170kW DC charging, while the Premium Plus trim is capable of 22kW AC charging too.
Entry-level starts at the AMG Line, a nod to Merc’s decision to move more into the ultra-premium market. Standard features include air suspension, an ‘energising’ air filtration system, heated and cooled front seats (which are leather-trimmed and sporty), active park assist and illuminated door sills. There’s also keyless entry, adaptive LED headlights and AMG exterior styling.
Optional extras are where the ‘cutting-edge’ fun really starts though. The Advanced Digital Light tech projects illuminated guidance onto the road in front, such as additional road markings or warning symbols.
Inside, there’s a 12.3-inch binnacle with a 12.8-inch centre screen to access the MBUX infotainment system as standard. Upgrading to AMG Premium gets you a swanky Burmester sound system, built-in dashcam and augmented reality (AR) nav. There are also 21” alloys, a sliding panoramic roof and a chunkier package of driving and self-parking tech. You do have to part with another £10,000 for such perks, though.
The 'future-is-here' Hyperscreen is optional in Premium trim for a whopping eight grand minus change. The impressive three-display set-up gets standardised for Premium Plus, along with that Digital Light feature, a head-up display and a ‘Hey Mercedes’ digital assistant.
The typical ‘Premium Plus’ experience means bigger; wheel sizes go up another inch. Meanwhile, Business Class - we’re really taking off now (ba-bam-tss) - will feature TV functionality on its Hyperscreen and a veritable swathe of extra comfort. Interestingly, it’s only when you hit the top range trim that you get a heated steering wheel thrown in for good measure.
No frequent flyer miles can be earned with your purchase, though the whole family should be more than comfortable with your choice. Like the 2021 S-Class - the first production car to feature the technology - the EQE SUV, in Premium Plus and Business Class trims, also has 10-degree rear-axle steering so this not-insignificant thing can shift its heft, turn corners and park as elegantly as a London cabbie.
