Lotus says the first Evija customers will get their cars in the “next few weeks”
Are you an impatient millionaire with a 2,000bhp electric hypercar on order? We have good news
Lotus has some very big plans for the growth of the company in the next few years. So much so, we almost forgot about the 2,000bhp-ish Evija hypercar. Almost.
We first saw the Evija way back in 2019, and TG even drove a prototype version at Lotus’ Hethel test track in 2021. Since then, things have been rather quiet, and we don’t just mean because of the Evija’s electric powertrain.
Now though, Lotus has confirmed the first very customers will be getting their extremely rapid hypercars very shortly indeed.
“Production has started,” a Lotus spokesperson told TG. “The cars are in there [the dedicated Evija building at Hethel], production is happening, first customer cars will be delivered in the next few weeks.”
But how many of the planned 130 cars have been sold? Well, that’s still a little unclear. When Lotus took the wraps off the special edition Evija Fittipaldi in October last year, it noted that all eight examples of the black-n-gold creation were accounted for.
“We have sold out the first year [of production] based on the deposits that we've taken,” Lotus said. “But we've got a huge amount of serious interested parties, we just haven't got to the point of taking the deposits because all we've done is prioritise the first year of production. Of course, in common with every other OEM, production of cars in the last two or three years has been a challenge simply because of Covid and supply chain issues.”
So, if you’ve got a spare £2.4m lying around it sounds like you might still be able to get yourself a Norfolk-built rocketship. Anyone interested?
