Look out Tesla: Mercedes is setting up its own charging network

Merc finally follows Musk in setting up a branded network of chargers across America, Europe and China

Published: 06 Jan 2023

Big news in the world of electrification. Mercedes-Benz has announced that it’ll set up its own charging network for EVs in North America, Europe, China and ‘other key markets’, with more than 10,000 chargers to be in place by the end of the decade.

Like with most of Tesla’s Supercharger network, the chargers will be open to all EV drivers, but there will be additional benefits for those in Mercs. For example, if you’re driving a Mercedes EV you’ll be able to reserve a charger before you arrive.

We’re told that the network will arrive in North America first, with 350kW rapid-chargers being put into large, mostly-covered charging hubs starting from this year. Said hubs will be “located in key cities and urban population centres, close to major arteries, convenient retail and service destinations”.

Thoughts on the plans, Internet?
