The ID.6 is Volkswagen’s biggest EV yet
The VW ID.6 is an electric SUV for China with up to seven seats
Meet the Volkswagen ID.6. We’ve had the 3, 4 and… well, they appear to have missed one out. To confuse numerical matters yet further, the ID.6 can have seven seats.
It’s the biggest full-electric ID model yet, but thus far it’s for China only. The ID.6 comes with numerous options – two or four-wheel drive, up to 365 miles of range and 300bhp of power, seating for five or seven and either Crozz or X trim, lending it slightly different appearances.
But don’t get too attached. Because the ID.6 demonstrates not only how flexible the Volkswagen group’s MEB platform is in terms of size – housing the littler ID.3 hatch as well as this family bus – but how flexible it is in terms of markets.
This car has been designed for China and China alone, where it’s also being built. It’s a move made financially viable, it seems, by the ease of slotting different tops upon the MEB bottom, like the EV equivalent of those Nokia 3310 covers that were all the rage in the early Noughties.
Still, with Mercedes introducing the seven-seat EQB for Europe, it’d be foolish of VW not to offer a similarly appointed car over here…
