How good does the Lucid Air police cruiser look on steel wheels?

Lucid confirms California Highway Patrol has been testing its slippery EV saloon

Published: 12 Nov 2024

Lucid has released some images of its Air saloon in a full police-spec livery having confirmed that it recently participated in California Highway Patrol vehicle testing. Our first thought? Boy does it look good on those black steel wheels.

The Californian carmaker shared the images on X (do we still have to say formerly Twitter?) and asked whether the world reckoned the Air would make a good police cruiser. At $249,000 a pop the Air Sapphire might be a little expensive for law enforcement duty, but with 1,234bhp and 1,430lb ft of torque it would make catching crims that little bit easier. We can’t see many getaway cars being able to match a 0-60mph time of 1.9 seconds.

Lucid hasn’t given much info about the vehicle it supplied to the California Highway Patrol, but it’s more likely that it’d be based on the Air Pure with its starting price of $69,900, 430bhp and 420 miles of EPA-estimated range. Stick some steel wheels on the configurator and bring that car to the UK already.
