Here’s our best look yet at the reborn Renault 5
Renault has given us a glimpse of its prototype 5 wearing a very fetching wrap
These pics of prototype Renault 5s don’t leave much to the imagination, do they? And aside from sprouting some proper door handles, it looks like the retrofuturistic style of the R5 concept will make production. Rejoice!
Wearing a wrap that looks like it was inspired by Pirelli’s medium and soft F1 tyre compounds, these ‘vehicle check’ prototypes are being built in Renault’s secretive Technocentre near Paris before they head out onto European roads for the final stage of testing.
Until now, Renault has been working on the new all-electric CMF-B EV platform that’ll underpin the 5 using Clio-like mules.
Around 60 of these vehicle check prototypes will be built, with part of the plan to imitate the manufacturing process so that these cars accurately represent the future production cars. Said production cars should arrive in 2024, and remember Renault has promised us that the new 5 will be cheaper to buy than the outgoing Zoe.
