Fisker has claimed a 440-mile range for the Ocean Extreme e-SUV

Original estimate of 391 miles exceeded with latest WLTP range update

Published: 27 Mar 2023

Fisker has announced that its upcoming Ocean ‘Extreme’ electric SUV will go a very long way indeed on a single charge. Henrik Fisker’s new endeavour now claims a combined WLTP range of 440 miles. That’s… loads.

That puts it comfortably ahead of the Tesla Model S’s 405 miles, a fraction behind the Merc EQS’s 453 miles and some way short of the Lucid Air’s 520 miles (in ‘Dream Edition’ spec); three of the longest-range electric cars available currently. Though whichever way you cut it, 440 miles is still a considerable distance. And bear in mind those three cars are all saloons - Fisker's Ocean therefore, offers the most range from an electric SUV.

While the company has yet to reveal the size of the battery powering the Ocean Extreme’s range highs, expect it to be hovering somewhere near the 100kWh mark; that appears to be the benchmark for big range currently.

Indeed Fisker claims it’s fitted with the ‘hyper range’ battery. Elsewhere the ‘Extreme’ trim level – sitting above ‘Ultra’, ‘Sport’ and ‘One’ – features a dual-motor, AWD drivetrain “with rear disconnect”, a ‘boost mode’, surround view, a tonne of driver assistance, a 17.1in central touchscreen and the ‘SolarSky roof’.

Prices for this car start from £60,880, though the Ocean Sport, which makes do with a single motor front-wheel-drive setup and 273 miles of range, kicks off at £35,970.

Fisker recons on European homologation for the Ocean by 28 April this year, with customer deliveries to follow.
