Fiat’s Big Panda will cost less than £22k, and there are two new production models coming

And the all-electric 'Grande' Panda will dip under £20k in hybrid guise

Published: 12 Jul 2024

Fiat is celebrating its 125th birthday by releasing details and pricing for its upcoming Grande Panda model, and confirming the Panda fastback and MegaPanda SUV versions of its new, um, Panda, are already in development and going into production. Party poppers at the ready.

The regular BigPanda will be less than £22,000 in fully electric form, and will dip under £20,000 for the mild hybrid version.

The fully electric model will get a 44kWh battery and 83kW motor, with an expected range of around 195 miles. Fiat also claims a ‘market first’ by including an integrated charging cable, capable of up to 7kW AC power delivery. We’re told the spiral shape will help get the cable tidily back in place without the faff of cables in the boot. Neat.

The mild hybrid will feature the same set-up as the Citroen C3. That means a 99bhp 1.2-litre engine coupled with a small electric motor to maximise fuel economy.

The five-seater features the cubey shape of the '80s original and plenty of character, updated to modern tastes with rear privacy glass, daytime running lights and 17in diamond-cut alloys. It's a compact car - under four metres long, 1.57m high and 1.76 wide.

Inside, there’s a dash with a 10in driver display and 10.25in central display, design nods to Fiat’s Lingotto factory, and practically speaking, 361 litres of luggage capacity.

That’s not all. Fiat took the opportunity during celebrations to showcase new images of its fastback and SUV concepts, now confirmed for production.

The fastback concept hasn’t got a name yet and details are scant, but the thing is expected to be based on the Panda, albeit a bit bigger. Elsewhere, the Panda SUV – currently known as Giga-Panda – is expected to feature seven seats. More info as we get it.
