Fiat will stop selling non-electrified cars in the UK from July

Any pure combustion-engined cars will be swiftly shown the door later this year

Published: 30 May 2022

Fiat will stop selling purely combustion-engined cars in the UK from July.

It means the entire Fiat range – 500, 500X, Panda and Tipo – will soon be made up entirely by hybrids and fully-electric cars. Indeed, the new-generation 500 city car was the first fully electric car Fiat designed and built from scratch.

Fiat and Abarth’s UK boss Greg Taylor said: “This step in Fiat’s history marks a pivotal point in our commitment to providing affordable and sustainable mobility solutions for all of our customers.”

The move comes after a record 2021 for UK electric car sales, while in April 2022, there were 12,899 EVs registered; a 40.9 per cent rise over April 2021.

Over last year as a whole, sales of new electric cars grew by 586.8 per cent versus 2020. As a result the Government decided to cut its Plug-in Car Grant to £1,500, with cars costing less than £35,000 now the only ones eligible for the discount.
