The electric Omoda 5 will offer up to 280 miles of range

Chinese brand reveals new details on its electric crossover

Published: 16 Oct 2023

Omoda has revealed further details about the electric variant of its first European model, ingeniously named Omoda 5. The Chinese-made crossover SUV debuted earlier this year with fossil-fuelled powertrains. Now the brand – new to European shores – has confirmed the tech specs of the all-electric one.

It’ll have a 61kWh battery capable of delivering up to 280 miles. That’s on par with the Kia Soul EV, MG ZS long range and Kia Niro EV.

The Chery-owned brand also confirmed the battery can accept 110kW rapid charging (up to 220V) and will re-juice from 0 to 80 per cent state of charge (SoC) in only 30 minutes. That means you’ll get over 200 miles back into the battery over a quick lunch.

The Omoda 5 will have three driving modes – eco, comfort and sport – and can achieve 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds.

Omoda now tells us there’ll be four trims available at launch, and each one will be "generously equipped with segment-leaving standard equipment", along with a suite of driver assist and safety tech.

Omoda clearly has big ambitions. These aren’t the only models it wants to introduce into the UK market: by 2025 we can expect the larger Omoda 9 and smaller O3 – both with a choice of powertrains – to join the O5. The O5, meanwhile, will be available from March 2024.
