Eight things to watch out for at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show

Vegas’ annual tech show kicks off in style today

Harman
  1. Honda’s new EV lineup

    CES 2024 Honda Teaser

Despite the fact the tech show only a couple of years back was turning more and more into a motor show, 2024 is set to be a bit more pared down when it comes to car content. Honda’s decided to use the relative quiet to debut an all-new electric vehicle series.

  2. Kia’s going ‘Platform Beyond Vehicle’

    KIA CES

In a bid to reinvent the acronym away from ‘purpose-built vehicle’, the Korean brand will be showcasing the EV3 and EV4, as well as giving us more info on its new venture to connect all things car-to-home with Samsung.

  3. Rimac is expected to introduce a robot taxi for the UK

    Rimac Nevera

Rimac is stepping away from its usual fare of Bugattis and jaw-droppingly fast Neveras and is set to develop a mass market self-driving cab. Apparently. Since Ford pulled back from full autonomy last year, we’re expecting to see more talk of electric and less of machine-piloted. But one never knows…

  4. AirConsole - an in-car gaming platform - is showcasing its ‘Cockpit of the Future’

    BMW 5 Series

Software-defined vehicles specialist KPIT Technologies signed a collaboration agreement with AirConsole at the back end of 2023. The latter wants to increase its lead on in-car gaming, after striking a deal with BMW and extending it to the Mini brand. And who doesn’t want to play ‘Who wants to be a millionaire?’ to keep the kids quiet?

  5. BT Group incubator Etc will be repurposing street cabinets into EV charging points

    BT Group

Despite the rubbish name and seemingly low-profile of this British institution’s innovation subsidiary, Etc (yeah, really) has got a remarkably smart idea of switching up 60,000 telephone and internet cabinets into EV charging points. It’s only at the ‘technical trial’ stage, but we’ll update you with developments.

  6. Harman hasn’t teased anything but it’s a dead cert for automotive refinement

    Harman

The most prolific name in autonomotive audio (not least because it owns the vast majority of brands found in cars), Harman usually has something up its sleeve – and those 'somethings' tend to win innovation awards for pushing the boundaries of audio visual fun.

  7. Hyundai Mobis

    Hyundai Mobis

Hyundai Mobis, a subsidiary supplying parts and software to the Korean car maker, announced it would be presenting 20 new mobility technology concepts ‘for immediate mass production’, including tech to turn wheels and help cars park sideways. As demonstrated by this Mobion concept.

  8. You won’t be able to get moved for the mentions of AI, including Merc and Nvidia

    Mercedes-Benz

The Paul Simon song, ‘You can call me, AI’ and the overwhelming trend of AI have very little in common, least to say, if you hear them too often you get a little sickened. Prepare for this week’s tech media coverage to be vomiting artificial intelligence acronyms like underage drinkers on a Saturday night.
