Brabus is now building rad £17k electric surfboards

German tuner teams up with jetboard builder Awake to create an extremely expensive special edition

Published: 29 May 2024

Brabus made its name in the tuning world by giving all manner of Mercedes' huge power and gearbox-busting torque. It still does that of course, with things like the Brabus 930, which is a 917bhp version of the AMG GT 4dr 63 S E Performance.

However, it also does a strong sideline in speedboats, and that part of the Brabus business has now decided to branch out even further. This is the Brabus x Awake Shadow Jetboard “One of 77”.

Essentially, it’s an all-electric surfboard that’s built by Awake and then bejewelled with Brabus logos, carbon fibre and a black/red livery to honour the German tuner. As you might have guessed, just 77 will be built, with each one costing £17,275. Yikes.

Still, it should be rather cool. The removable battery allows for 60 minutes of runtime and takes less than two hours to charge, while the ‘low-intake jet system’ (very cool) allows for acceleration from 0-31mph in 3.0 seconds flat. Top speed is somewhere around the 35mph mark, which probably feels quite fast when you’re balancing on a carbon fibre tea tray in the middle of the ocean.

We’re told the large carbon fibre fins allow you to carve through the water, and there are plenty of different drive modes so that everyone from beginners to pro jetboard riders (just finding out that's a thing) can enjoy.

“Brabusize the waves,” says the German tuner in its press release. Oh dear, we thought this thing was kinda cool until that line.
