This Arctic Trucks-prepped Nissan Ariya will drive from the North to the South Pole

Husband and wife team Chris and Julie Ramsey will drive 17,000 miles in this modified EV SUV

Published: 01 Feb 2023

Ever wondered what an everyday EV SUV would need to look like if you wanted to drive it 17,000 miles from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole? Well, wonder no more, because Nissan has partnered with our friends at Arctic Trucks to create an all-conquering Ariya.

Just look at those wheels! We’re told that not too many modifications have been made to the Ariya and that the powertrain and battery remain completely standard. What’s new is the jacked-up long travel suspension, the giant plastic arch extensions and the 39-inch off-road tyres.

Husband and wife team Chris and Julie Ramsey will take on the expedition starting in March this year, and perhaps the most important modification to the car is the installation of an espresso machine inside.

Other changes from the standard Ariya include a roof rack that can launch drones to take mega wilderness snaps. Oh, and if you’re worried about the charging infrastructure at the South Pole, Nissan’s solution is for Chris and Julie to tow a ‘portable, renewable energy unit’ that includes a lightweight wind turbine and solar panels. The trailer will then be able to charge the Ariya while it’s stationary. Should solve the range anxiety issue.

Is this a mission you’d want to undertake?
