All-electric Alpine GT X-Over coming in 2025

Alright, so the dark-render-profile-silhouette teaser isn’t the most original way to build suspense for a new car, but given that the Alpine GT X-Over is still three years away you can forgive the French company for the lack of photography at this stage.

What you sort of see here then is the outline of a fully electric SUV-slash-GT vehicle based on the same CMF-EV platform found underneath the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric.

It’s the second of three electric Alpines due by the end of 2026, the first being a hot hatch version of the forthcoming Renault 5 (coming 2024) and the latter an electric replacement for the A110.

The GT X-Over will use the same technology as its Renault sibling, although you can bet your bottom Euro that there’ll be more power to do justice to the Alpine badge.

"Over the past twelve months, Alpine has succeeded in setting a new dynamic in motion and upholding its commitments,” said Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo. “It can be seen today in Dieppe where the future GT Alpine X-Over will be made, thus giving a clear vision of the future and solid prospects for the historic, industrial site.

“Alpine's ambition must remain high, where only the most passionate strive to be, those driven by the quest to attain perfection. This level of excellence must be like oxygen for Alpine.”

All sounds very positive. To that end the factory in Normandy has been renamed Manufacture Alpine Dieppe Jean Rédélé in honour of the man who established the firm in 1955.

The site needs further investment to enable it to produce cars based on the CMF-EV architecture, but once updated the GT X-Over is set to start rolling off the production line in 2025.

"Alpine's history is legendary!” exclaimed Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi. “Its unique heritage can be seen in car racing with the equally legendary A110, and the future holds strong ambitions for the brand and its products.”

If it can make EVs even half as good as the A110, we’re fully on board.
