Acura reckons this Performance EV Concept pays homage to the second-gen NSX

Uh oh, Acura is planning a new electric SUV and it’s already deploying the NSX as bait

Published: 20 Aug 2024

This is the Acura Performance EV Concept, and yes, it does look a lot like the Lotus Eletre. And check out that front bumper design – take away the badge on the bonnet and from head on you’d be forgiven for thinking this is McLaren’s long-awaited SUV.

Anyway, this concept apparently previews Acura’s next EV and that a version of it will go into production in late 2025. That car will be built on the new ‘Honda-developed EV platform’ and will be the first EV put together at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio.

But that’s getting ahead of ourselves. For now, the concept shows what the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles can do. There’s a giant vented bonnet, equally large side vents and a pointy front end that apparently draws inspiration from hydrofoil super-yachts. At the rear you get a small lip spoiler, a full width lightbar and a diffuser. Acura says the styling back there pays homage to the second-gen NSX. Oh dear.

To give you a sense of scale, those wheels are apparently 23-inchers, and underneath are drilled high-performance brakes with white calipers. The exterior paint is a semi-matte ‘Moonlit White Pearl’ colour, which certainly adds to the whole super-yacht on wheels vibe that’s going on. Is that a good thing? We’re not so sure.

Anyway, there’s no word on any powertrain details, but unlike the ZDX (Acura’s first EV) it won’t use the Ultium platform or any other GM bits.
