Is that a popcorn machine? No, it's the new Subaru Uncharted

Subaru ventured into the sweltering urban jungle of New York City to unveil this, the all-new Uncharted. It is not a brilliant videogame or indeed a disappointing adaptation of said videogame, but instead a shiny new electric crossover with sporty driving in mind. Because of course it is.

The dual-motored utility vehicle will swing in with 338hp and provide Subie’s standard symmetrical all-wheel drive, with its Sport and GT models set up for five-second 0 to 60 getaways off the line.

The Uncharted is a first for Subaru but it’s not fully unfamiliar territory. If you look closely, you’ll see the Uncharted is essentially an exciting blend of the Solterra and the Toyota CH-R BEV announced a couple of months ago. All are built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform with the CH-R (pronounced ‘chair’, mainly by us) sharing the same motor configuration and output.

On the topic of the Solterra, the Uncharted sports the family look by sharing a light signature with the Solterra and the Trailseeker. The CUV is about seven inches shorter than its slightly more seasoned sibling, but it has 25 cu ft of cargo space behind the second row, out cargo-ing the 23.8 cu ft the Solterra offers. All the while, its sport-tuned suspension claims dynamic performance on the road, along with grip and stability on loose surfaces.

Saddled with a 74.7kWh battery, Subaru expects the all-wheel drive versions will provide around 290 miles of range, and claims the CUV can be juiced up from 10-80 per cent in 30 minutes when connected to a fast-charging station, something that its native NACS port can accommodate. If it’s more miles and less grunt you’re looking for, a FWD-only version will be produced in limited numbers. These will offer up just 221hp but can stretch its range past 300 miles if the conditions are right.

Inside the Uncharted you’ll find a 14in infotainment screen, standard dual wireless charging ports on the center console, dual USB-C ports for rear passengers and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility. In terms of safety, all trim levels include Subie’s suite of driver-assist tech it calls EyeSight, with certain trims throwing in extras like a panoramic view monitor, lane change and traffic jam assists. All trims come with an all-weather package that includes heated front seats and a de-icer for the windshield wiper. The whole package rides on 18 or 20in wheels, contingent on trim level.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but we’ll hear more about it as we get closer to its launch in early 2026.
