Detroit Motor Show

It’s the 315bhp, RWD Kia. No, really

Published: 02 Jan 2014

Kia will reveal a 315bhp, rear-drive sports car concept at the Detroit motor show later this month, and the Korean behemoth has released this very tempting teaser shot to prove it. Consider us teased, guys.

Looks interesting, doesn't it? We know the 2+2 concept will be dubbed the GT4 Stinger, and we know it gets 20-inch wheels, ‘vertical' LED headlights (very Audi R8, no?), and a front splitter made of carbon fibre.

So what's making 315bhp under that venty bonnet? A V12? A V8? No and no. Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which sounds entirely production-viable: remember Mercedes already squeezes 356bhp from a two-litre four in its A45 AMG.

But Kia won't admit at this stage if there's any chance of the GT4 Stinger making production. Even a year ago, the possibility of Kia building a proper sports car was near unthinkable, but after the success of its Pro_cee'd GT hot hatch, anything's possible. We'll find out more at Detroit. Can't wait.
