The Infiniti Q60 coupe looks good and comes with 400bhp
Still fancy that 4-Series? Infiniti aims for BMW with a smart V6 turbo coupe
Could this finally be the Infiniti to properly steal sales from BMW and Mercedes? Given how good it looks, we’re inclined to say ‘maybe’. Meet the Infiniti Q60, a rather pert rival for the 4-Series and C-Class coupe.
Further helping its cause is Infiniti immediately shouting about six-cylinder engines. Downsizing isn’t the main priority here, thank the Lord.
Its headline powerplant is a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 with 400bhp. That’s knocking on the door of BMW M4 territory, only you can expect it to be a bit more refined and, well, less daft here.
The Q60 is rear-driven as standard, with all-wheel drive optional. Infiniti is promising much in the way of tech to keep its power manageable, though names like Dynamic Digital Suspension and Direct Adaptive Steering (with six switchable settings) do make us fear for quite how engaging and involving it will feel. Infinitis aren't the sharpest in their class, after all, but we live in hope this will be more fun.
While the Q60 is effectively a successor to the old G37 Coupe, it’s a much smarter and more bespoke looking thing. And it’s pleasingly close to its concept, too. You can even have some enormous 20-inch alloys if you’re feeling frivolous with the options boxes.
The bold grille isn’t all about aesthetics, either - it features active shutters that balance the engine’s cooling requirements with aerodynamic needs. The result? A lovely, smooth, 0.28Cd drag coefficient.
Sales start in the summer, and should 400bhp sound a tad much, then the V6 comes in 300bhp tune, too. There’s also a 208bhp 2-litre petrol turbo if you’re feeling ultra sensible.
We’re not, though, so we reckon it’s time to campaign for a Nissan GT-R-engined coupe to really rattle the BMW M4’s cage. Help get us started via the comments box below…
