Whatever happened to the battery-free nanoFlowcell Quant?
No less than the answer to the world's energy demands! But... where is it now?
What is it?
The answer to the world’s energy demands! Founder Nunzio La Vecchia claimed he’d found a way to make battery-free electric propulsion possible, by combining positively and negatively charged ‘bi-ion’ saltwater to generate power – meaning refuelling in three minutes.
Did they actually build any?
The gullwing doored ‘Quant’ limo graced the Geneva Motor Show for a few years from 2014, while a running ‘Quantino’ supermini prototype allegedly completed a 1,100km endurance test in 14 hours. We actually test drove it. But La Vecchia has never allowed his tech to be peer reviewed, over fears of patent theft.
Where are they now?
Still occasionally plopping out press releases saying that full scale production is just around the corner. But the EV revolution has been given a 10 year head start on R&D and infrastructure. And the pesky laws of physics and thermodynamics still exist.
