Peugeot in the Worldwide Megalopolis news - Three finking - 2009

Last year, Peugeot invited designers to draw up ‘the Peugeot in the Worldwide Megalopolis of tomorrow'. By ‘tomorrow', we can only assume they meant ‘some point in the distant future that'll never actually arrive'. Rather than ‘the day after today', because obviously that'd be several yesterdays ago by now.

Anyhow, here it is, the Peugeot in the Worldwide Megalopolis of some point in the distant future that'll never actually arrive. It's called the RD concept design, and it's the work of 27-year-old Colombian designer Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar.

Yes, it's a three-wheeler, and yes, it's electric. Tovar says the RD ‘combines the sensations of a three-wheeled scooter with the driving pleasure of a saloon car', with ‘the ability to easily thread its way through urban traffic'.

Hang on. Isn't the RD just about as wide at the front as a small car? Surely it'll only ‘easily thread its way through urban traffic' so long as you're not too worried about, say, door mirrors? Or the long-term health of your fellow commuters?

And while we're on the subject, as a single seater, is this really an efficient use of space in the crowded urban cityscapes of tomorrow (sorry, ‘some point in the distant future that'll never actually arrive')? Are we missing something? Use the comment boxes below to tell us why we're deeply, deeply wrong.
