Hyundai’s virtual N 2025 concept returns for GT Sport

Concept cars are pretty cool, right? Seeing mad creations of what the world's car manufacturers can come up with when they’re not making Powerpoints and spreadsheets. Whether they stick to paper sketches or make it to a full-size touchy-feely idea, the concepts are only getting madder with age.

But digital renderings and static chassis' leave little to the imagination. Step forward everyone’s favourite Sunday afternoon distraction – our old friends at PlayStation, specifically, Gran Turismo Sport. 

It was back in 2015 that the game’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi announced the Vision GT race series for the 15th anniversary of the game, designed for the craziest concepts put forward by major brands. Cars included the Mercedes Vision GT concept from 2013, the Chevrolet Chapparral and Aston Martin’s DP-100. Never to see the light of tarmac, sure, but perfect for your square and circle based enjoyment.

Hyundai debuted “the most exhilarating concept to come out of [its] design studios,” the N 2025 Vision GT Concept for the game, and today announced that this rather amazing concept will feature in Gran Turismo Sport, released this week. 

“The N 2025 Vision GT is our ambitious take on what we think prototype racing could look like in the not-too-distant future,” says Chris Chapman, Chief Designer at the Hyundai Design Center in California. “We’re thrilled to see it presented anew in one of the most visually stunning racing simulations ever created.”

The N 2025 was brought to life at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show, with Le Mans styling including an extended tail and rear fin. Stats boasted a 872bhp hydrogen and super-capacitor drivetrain and massive tyres which look proper sketchbook-doodley. 

The Vision GT will be joined by several other virtual Hyundai mobiles – different specs of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe to suit different racing classes. 

We love that these brands are enjoying the console competitions as much as we are, although with our PlayStation skills, all the horsepower in the world still might not keep us off the gravel…
