Citroen Ami, watch your back: this is the diddy, 62-mile Toyota FT-Me Concept

The world's slowest, most adorable battle is on the cards, and the new challenger is this 28mph city-dwelling EV

Published: 11 Mar 2025

Meet Toyota’s answer to the problem of hunting down that elusive parking spot in your favourite (European) city: the ‘FT-Me'. It’s a compact, two-seat, electric micromobility concept that weighs just 425kg and is therefore another light quadricycle. Look out, Citroen Ami.

More important than its weight, of course, it its length, and like its adorable new French nemesis, the FT-Me measures less than two-and-a-half metres long. It occupies less than half the size of a standard space. Or less than a third if parked perpendicularly.

Technical details are still a little threadbare, but a Toyota spokesperson has confirmed the aim is “at least 100km of range”. That solar panel roof will play a big part in recharging, able to provide between 20-30km back each day. Unless you’re a Londoner, obvs. Top speed? Around 28mph. Again, identical to the Ami.

There’s lots of natural light, 360-degree visibility and hand controls, so wheelchair users won’t require heavy modifications to use it.

And Toyota’s thought heavily about usability. You can, for instance, remove the passenger seat and make room for your dog. Or a pile of laundry. At the rear is a 1.6m loading bay, and there is a bit of space between the passengers and the boot lid, so the FT-Me could actually serve as a courier vehicle. For pizzas, that is, not exotic tree transportation.

There are a few niggles to figure out before this thing can go into production though. The wing mirrors are one; replacing them with cameras is expensive. And so is throwing in an air conditioning unit, and other such mainstream quality-of-life features found in cars. Should Toyota find a way around these problems, it says the FT-Me will target a competitive price point of less than €300 a month. That's £252 on this side of the Channel, though Toyota's yet to confirm if it'll be coming here.

So, Ami vs FT-Me. Who ya got over the most adorable 12 rounds?
