Check out these cool Andersen EV charge points designed by students

Those of you familiar with the name ‘Andersen EV’ will be acquainted with the spectacular designs it applies to its home wall box chargers for electric cars. Over the last few months, it invited students from the University of Creative Arts in southern England to showcase their imagination in its ‘Designer of Tomorrow’ competition, and the results are… imaginative.

The winner, called ‘Java’, follows a coffee theme. Using a fluted fascia panel that’s been created from spent coffee residue in a bio-resin mixture, the idea was to represent the half a million tonnes of coffee waste that’s sent to landfill sites annually. That it happens to be themed after the thing you'd likely consume while waiting for you car to charge is of course, coincidental.

Other entries included a 3D-printed illusional theme, a circular-patterned glass theme and even one (seemingly) sculpted from mud and sand. We're told the artists had just one month to sculpt, build and finalise the physical concepts - which are all on display at London Design Week right now - with the winning 'Java' charger followed by five runners-up.

CEO of Andersen EV, David Martell, said: “This competition has allowed us to inspire the next generation of designers and explore future concepts in home charging. Great design and advanced technology can be fostered in unison, and it has been very rewarding to see how the students have explored the interplay of form and function.”
