You can buy Jay Leno’s rare F-150 pickup next week

The chat show supremo’s car is one of eleven vehicles going to auction for charity

  • Cars become instantly more desirable if they have been owned by someone who’s been on the telly. David Beckham proved that when his old Range Rover Sport fetched £8,000 more than expected under the hammer last year.

But what if the car in question belongs to an internationally known petrolhead with a penchant for anything that has a motor?

We’ll find out next week as Jay Leno’s Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition is sold in aid of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at Scottsdale in Arizona.

The only one of its kind (Ford made 7,500 but modified this one for Leno), the pickup joins ten other cars lined up for the Barrett-Jackson auction which will benefit a number of different charitable organisations.

So if you are among the few people who can afford to expend tens of thousands of dollars at a moment’s notice, read on. If you aren’t one of those people, read on anyway. There’s nothing to stop you winning the lottery in the coming hours...

  • 2000 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition Pickup

So what exactly is Leno’s pickup capable of? Well it has a 5.4-litre, supercharged V8: an SVT Lightning powertrain which makes it unique to the batch that Ford made at the beginning of the Millennium.

That supercharged V8 will arm you with 360bhp and a useful 440lb ft of torque, driven through a four-speed automatic, while the exhaust has been designed to give drivers what has been termed a ‘robust aural signature’.

Proceeds will go to: The National Multiple Sclerosis Society

  • 2008 McKinney Top Fuel Dragster

Fed up of being left for dead at the lights? Here is your solution.

This former Top Fuel dragster won the NHRA Summit Racing Nationals in Norwalk in 2008 and last raced in 2013, though we reckon it’s still pretty nifty. The car is capable of running a quarter-mile in 4.44 seconds from a standing start with a top speed of over 330mph.

Proceeds will go to: B.R.A.K.E.S. Foundation

  • 2015 Jeep Wrangler Custom SUV

This Rubicon Edition of the Wrangler has been treated with more post-production gizmos than you can shake a stick at.

Fitted with a 3.6-litre engine, the non-exhaustive list of add-ons includes a 12,500-pound winch, vented hood inserts, front and rear half doors, a pillar switch pod, a 4-inch suspension lift kit with shocks, adjustable track bar, Line-X Rugged Ridge 8-piece flat flares and a Spartan grille.

    We want it.

Proceeds will go to: Childhelp through SEMA Cares

  • 2012 Dodge Charger NASCAR Race Car

If the Top Fuel dragster sounded a bit lairy, then you might consider something more tranquil.

An ex-NASCAR racer fits that description perfectly. With eight cylinders and a four-speed manual gearbox with which to operate them, this Dodge Charger was driven by Brad Keselowski at the AAA Texas 500 during his 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship season.

Michigan-born Keselowski finished the season as champion, having picked up 2400 points and five wins in total. Impressive.

Proceeds will go to: Paralyzed Veterans of America

  • 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

Born only last year and with just 500 miles under its belt, this white Camaro is basically brand new.

The auction guide describes the Z/28 as a ‘serious track car’, which is hard to argue with considering that it has been round the Nurburgring in less than eight minutes.

    There's a 7.0-litre V8 on-board giving the Chevy a 0-60mph time of 4.4 seconds.

Proceeds will go to: The Barrett-Jackson Cancer Fund at TGen in memory of Russ and Brian Jackson

  • 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Military Tribute

This is likely to go to a niche bidder.

The Chevrolet Colorado pictured above is provided without specs (we’re sure some exist), probably because no one bidding for it will be at all interested in the numbers.

The, er, distinct paint job is a tribute to the US military, featuring the army, the air force and the navy on the main bodywork with a gigantic, unmissable bald eagle plastered across the bonnet . Perhaps not the vehicle of choice for that North-South Vietnam trip you’ve been planning.

Proceeds will go to: The Stephen Siller Foundation

  • 2016 Chevrolet Camaro COPO Gen 6 VIN #001

    Another slide, another Chevy.

This model comes direct from the factory, and is the first of just 69 to roll off the production line. Described as a “powerful, purpose-built Camaro designed to dominate in NHRA Stock Eliminator drag racing”, the COPO comes with racing tyres, a roll cage and a 2.9-litre supercharger.

Be warned though: it isn’t street legal. Best hold back some of your budget for a trailer to transport it between tracks.

Proceeds will go to: United Way

  • 2017 Acura NSX VIN #001

That’s 2017 as in twelve months away, so anyone bidding for this car will presumably be gambling on Acura’s motor show examples being representitive of showroom spec.

That said, they’ll be richly rewarded if the second coming of the NSX delivers on its promises. It's combination of twin-turbo V6 and electric power brings a total output of 573bhp, and there are lots of electronic systems to ensure it's all put to good use.

Better still, winners of Lot #3007 will also be getting the first one ever made. Neat.

Proceeds will go to: The Pediatric Brain Tumour Foundation and Camp Southern Ground

  • 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS VIN #001

Here’s another chance to grab the first ever incarnation of a model, in this case the new Camaro SS.

The numbers that matter are thus: 455bhp from a 6.2-litre V8.

The SS also comes with an ‘Adrenaline Red’ leather interior, making it the first vehicle cabin to inspire the name of a future Tarantino movie. Maybe.

Proceeds will go to: Kettering University

  • 2016 Ford Focus RS

TG reviewed the new RS a couple of days ago, and the response to Ford’s latest performance hatch was overwhelming.

A left-hand drive version is available in the Barrett-Jackson auction, with the 2.3-litre four cylinder EcoBoost spec chucking out 350bhp and 350lb ft of torque to all four wheels.

It should make waves either side of the Atlantic...

    Proceeds will go to: JDRF

  • 1932 Ford Hi-Boy “McGee Tribute”

And finally, an oldie. Sort of. Together with L.A. Roadsters, a group of volunteer experts and students created this 1932 Ford roadster “as a tribute to America's most iconic roadster, the quintessential Bob McGee Hi-Boy”.

Staying true to the original design but incorporating modern comforts and safety measures, the Hi-Boy contains a sizeable 12-gallon fuel tank and a whole host of classic components that you’d more likely find in a museum these days than you would in a big market car.

An excellent opportunity if you want a pre-war machine built with modern know-how.

Proceeds will go to: The Alex Xydias Center for Automotive Arts
