This Porsche powered 50s camper van is for sale
Mecum Auctions will be selling this awesome Tempo Mikafa Sport
Okay Internet, before we begin we’ve got a bit of a confession to make – don’t be angry. This 1955 Tempo Mikafa Sport did originally come out of the factory with the engine from a Porsche 356, but it’s currently equipped with an unspecified four-cylinder boxer. Boooo.
Still, it’s pretty darn cool right? And just imagine what modern Porsche engine you could plumb in if you keep your hand up for long enough at the Mecum Auctions Monterey sale in August.
You’d have to leave the cosmetics unrestored though, because in its current state this aluminium-bodied beauty might just be one of the best-looking campers we’ve ever seen. There are all kinds of 50s styling cues too. Check out the sleek lines, the whitewall tyres and the heavily patterned interior.
And how many different shapes of window does one vehicle need? Well, back when it was new you could have had even more, because every Mikafa camper was specially ordered and built to spec by the German coachbuilders.
That makes them rare. The example you see above is thought to be one of only three Sport models ever produced with the Porsche engine and badges.
Inside there’s a kitchenette with a retro Electrolux fridge, a pop-up fresh air roof and a fully functional bathroom – apparently. Basically, everything you could possibly need for a throwback weekend away.
There’s no guide price on the listing as of yet, but given the Mikafa’s rarity, expect bidding to go through the roof when it hits the auction floor.
