This classic Mini Cooper is hiding a few secrets

The modifications to this 'for sale' Mini may not be quite what you expect

Published: 11 Apr 2019

The awesome little Mini Cooper Sport you see above is all set to go under the hammer at the Silverstone Auctions Sale of British Marques in May this year.

However, this is no ordinary final-year Cooper. Firstly, this car is currently owned by Jamiroquai lead singer and all-round car nut Jay Kay.

That isn’t the biggest surprise though – especially given that we know Mr Kay likes to auction off some of his vast collection from time to time.

Given Jay Kay’s penchant for fast metal, the engine bay is where you might have been expecting that surprise to appear. But no, W32 ANO still has its standard four-cylinder engine under the bonnet.

Things all look rather sane in the front seat too. It’s rather red yes, but those Chesterfield style chairs look remarkably comfortable. The eagle-eyed among you might spot the rather large speakers on the door panels, but even that’s not the most exciting aspect of this car…

On the back bench is where things start to get interesting. The red velvet curtains, cushions and roof lining make the rear of this car look like an old-school smoking lounge. We approve. And yes, that is a disco light.

Finally, the pièce de résistance is of course the Cooper’s boot, which has been converted into a bar! A Minibar if you will (apologies, we’ll show ourselves out).

There’s everything you need for a good shindig here – something we’re sure Jay Kay knows a thing or two about. The boot houses a cocktail shaker, tumblers and a variety of unidentified bottles. Would you expect anything less from a rockstar?

Remember though people, if you’re using the minibar in your boot – don’t drive your classic Mini Cooper afterwards. Hmm, surely there’s a snappier tagline in there somewhere?
