Citroen C5 Tourer news - Unmistakably bigger - 2008

The Citroen C5 has acquired a boot. Whether it's an unmistakably German aufladung or a good old fashioned French chassure (GCSE languages paying off a treat there) we're not sure, but it's further proof that estate versions of big cars tend to be just a little bit cooler than saloons.

The C5 Tourer looks to be a pretty sensible estate conversion, eschewing the sloping pillars and curvaceous backsides of some of its rivals in favour of a big, square glasshouse with a nice wide loading bay and plenty of space. 505 litres of space, to be exact - a figure which jumps to almost 1,500 litres with the split folding rear seats laid flat. 

As evidenced by the C4 Picasso, Citroen does the little things on big cars well, and the C5 estate gets a few neat touches of which we approve muchly. 

On higher-spec versions, the rear suspension can be raised or lowered when the C5 is stationery, making it easier to drop heavy items into the boot, and there's also the option of a motorised tailgate operated by the key fob. Non-agoraphobics can even order their estate with a giant panoramic glass roof. 

The C5 Tourer will be available with two petrol and four diesel engines, as well as the choice of Citroen's Hydractive suspension or more conventional steel springs.

Prices start at £16,695 and it'll go on sale in the UK on June 17, but if you need it sooner it's already available in France. And Germany.
