Wanna drive the 763mph+ Bloodhound LSR? It's all yours... if you've got the money
Last gasp attempt gives *you* the chance to set a new Land Speed Record
This is not a drill. In a last gasp attempt to break the Land Speed Record, Grafton LSR, the team behind Bloodhound, is offering the opportunity for someone to drive the car and take it beyond the existing 763.035mph world record set back in 1997.
The catch? Money. The team needs to raise £12 million to take Bloodhound LSR back to Hakskeen Pan in South Africa. It will also need to train its new driver.
“Everything is in place” says Grafton CEO Stuart Edmondson, “we’ve proven the track, proven the team and proven the car already.”
Andy Green, current holder of the Land Speed Record and Bloodhound’s existing driver, is stepping back to take up a mentoring and tutoring role.
“We’re looking for someone who can operate with discipline in a stressful environment and under pressure,” comments Edmondson, “but although this is no different to a paid drive in any other motorsport, we’re not after racing drivers or fighter pilots. We need someone with the right mental approach and we can train them”.
As one-off experiences go, driving Bloodhound LSR is right up there with flights into space, only here you get to chalk up an actual record and be feted in the Guinness book of records.
The car, which hit 628mph during testing back in 2019, retains its jet and rocket thrust design, and will run net zero emissions using synthetic fuel. “We’re not using any fossil fuels,” says Edmondson, “and the rocket fuel is created using hydroelectric power.”
This is the last gasp for Bloodhound, but in giving someone the opportunity to get behind the wheel and become the ‘fastest person on earth’ it ticks every box in the ‘how to appeal to the daredevil billionaire in your life’ handbook.
To drum up support Bloodhound LSR is undertaking a roadshow tour around the UK between 8-14 November.
