The McLaren GT by MSO wants to be a museum

A glass roof and seat stitching inspired by the British Museum. Um, what?

Published: 15 Aug 2019

No McLaren can escape the MSO customisation treatment, and with inevitability the new GT has gone under the special ops knife. But much like the stock McLaren GT, it’s been crafted with subtlety front of mind.

So there’s no ginormous wing or dive planes. No roof scoop, either. The exterior has been left well alone, in fact, save for the application of an oh-so-classy – some might say oh-so-boring – Flux Silver paint scheme. This is a supercar designed to blend into the background rather than draw in a bunch of Instagram story-wielding bystanders.

MSO admits its best work has taken place inside, and its logo appears to have been embossed into any surface that’ll take it.

The headline act is ‘MSO Bespoke Geoform Stitching’, with a pattern inspired by the glass roof atop the British Museum woven into numerous parts of the cabin, most notably the seats. The GT gets its own, electrochromic glass roof, too, as well as silver carbon paddleshifters.

And that’s your lot. There are no performance upgrades, pegging the GT’s twin-turbo V8 engine at a piffling 611bhp and its 0-62mph time at a yawning 3.2secs. Obviously we jest. This will be a bafflingly quick way to continent-hop in something pretending to be a museum. Perhaps you'll utilise its additional luggage space over a 570 or 720 to store some of your Egyptian pottery collection...

Like it? Or will you be asking MSO to paint yours Viper Green and fit a carbon diffuser deep enough to plough a field?
