Lotus Elise SC Jim Clark news - Better than a park bench - 2008

Published: 05 Jun 2008

It's 40 years since Jim Clark died in a crash at Hockenheim, and in memory of its most feted racing driver, Lotus has released a special edition supercharged Elise. Which, as a way of being honoured, definitely beats a park bench. Or having a swimming pool named after you.

Called the Clark Type 25 Elise SC, it'll be limited to just 25 cars - the number of Clark's 1963 Lotus F1 car and also his number of F1 wins (from just 72 starts - not a bad record, eh?).

Mechanically, it's a stock Elise SC, which means a supercharged 1.8-litre four-pot developing 217bhp and a 0-60 time of just 4.3 seconds. You do, however, get a tastefully retro yellow-on-green paintjob and slick silver and black racing wheels.

If you want to be one of the 25, it'll cost you just shy of 36 grand. Which in 1968 money is, erm, seventeen bushels and sixpence. Or something.
