Jensen is back! (again)

Published: 25 Feb 2015

This is the Jensen GT, which is currently made of clay. Soon it will be made of metal and glass and will become the first official Jensen since the company collapsed in 2002. Just to make things a bit more complicated, it will be built by the people behind the unofficial Interceptor R - a re-engineered version of the original, as tested on Top Gear - although this time in partnership with the people who own the Jensen name. Clear? Good.

While stats have yet to be released, it's thought each GT will cost around £350,000 and spec will depend on what each customer wants. The R version Jeremy drove on telly (see link, below) had a 6.3-litre Corvette engine with modern brakes and suspension, so expect something along those lines, although anything's possible.

The project is headed up by former Aston Martin boss Tim Hearley, who knows a thing or two about knocking up a British motor. "This represents the next chapter of Jensen and, as we look to the future, we want Jensen enthusiasts to help us celebrate as we unveil a completely new car and outline our plans for the future," he says.

Those plans for the future include another new model, the Interceptor 2, due in 2016. According to Jensen it will "take design cues from the classic Interceptor and will advance the concept of the original grand tourer", and might even involve the company getting together with a more established carmaker.

That's all the detail we have for now, so while we wait for news, let's fire up the video player and admire some moustaches...
