Jaguar has given the 2017 XE all-wheel-drive
Updates for Jag's BMW 3-Series fighter include AWD and new infotainment
Much as we like it, the Jaguar XE is not without fault. There’s no room in the back and the infotainment system is clunky and unresponsive.
Well, Jag has obviously been listening, for, with the introduction of the 2017 MY XE, at least one of our admittedly few criticisms will be rectified. You’re welcome, world.
InControl Touch Pro is Jag’s new infotainment system. We had a bit of a play with it in the new XJ earlier this month, and then again in the Evoque Cabrio, and it’s a mighty improvement. Slick and responsive, with few quirks and a broadly attractive interface. The screen’s bigger, too, and there’s a welcome raft of new, clever and mostly handy features. We like, and so will you.
What else is new? Besides the Nav, the big news is that the XE is getting all-wheel drive. Or rather, an XE is getting all-wheel drive, because you can only have it with the 178bhp, 2.0-litre diesel and the auto ‘box.
The XE is RWD in normal driving, but power is shuffled around as all the sensors see fit. How it works isn’t really important, just know that the end result is a bit like Quattro or xDrive. More grip.
Jag promises the XE hasn’t lost its RWD poise, though. We hope it’s right…
