It’s the 565bhp Aston Vantage S Roadster!

Published: 16 Jul 2014

We'll give you a moment to ogle the pictures above.

Ready? Good. It's the brand new Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Roadster; an Aston that uses the excellent recipe of small car, bloody huge engine and rear-wheel-drive. And as you can see, it's a pretty, squat little thing. It's also really bloody fast.

Well, fast for an Aston, anyway. It's basically the V12 Vantage S without a roof, and in doing so becomes the fastest-accelerating Aston Roadster ever built. In fact, why not have a listen to it accelerate?

This oomph is thanks to the same ‘AM28' 6.0-litre V12 that features in the V12 Vantage S Coupe. And because the roof comes down, you can revel in the noise of that simply marvellous 6.0-litre V12 even more.

So, about that V12. You're looking at a nice, hefty 565bhp and 457lb ft of torque, all marshalled through the same Sportshift III seven-speed automated manual gearbox as the Coupe (and replacing the six-speed manual from the last V12 Vantage Roadster), driving the rear wheels.

It'll go from 0-62mph in 4.1s and top out at 201mph (0-60mph is quoted at 3.9s). Not too shabby. The V12 Vantage S Coupe, for reference, does the 0-62mph sprint in 3.9 seconds.

It's still the aluminium VH chassis underneath, there is still a three-stage adaptive damping system that cycles through three, self-explanatory modes (normal, sport and track), carbon ceramic brake discs all round, a new lightweight exhaust system and good, old fashioned hydraulic steering.

No mention is made of how long it takes to open and close the roof and at what speeds, but really, do you actually care about this? It's a drop-top Aston Martin with a massive, noisy V12.

We're still waiting on UK pricing, but expect to pay over £150k.
