Is the Ford Fiesta about to be killed off?

Reports suggest the Ford Fiesta - a best-seller in the UK for yonks - could soon be pulled from sale. Say it ain’t so

Published: 25 Oct 2022

Thought we were done with national institutions and chaos? Apparently not, according to the internet, where rumours are swirling that the Ford Fiesta will soon be axed from the brand’s line-up for good. Crikey.

American badge of course, but the Fiesta has been something of a mainstay on these isles for the best part of half a century, in which time more than 16 million have reportedly been sold.

It’s only in the last few months that the legendary supermini has fallen off the list of the top 10 best-sellers in the UK, a chart it routinely topped with ease each year over the last decade.

Reports suggest that the Fiesta could be killed off sometime in 2023, leaving us with the likes of the Focus hatchback and Puma crossover as the entry points in the line-up, while the Mustang Mach-E SUV remains the sole electric Ford sold on these shores at present.

That might be about to change though. In fact, we know it’ll change sooner or later, with plans already laid out for a battery-electric Puma by 2024 and a couple of electric crossovers based on the VW MEB platform that’s given us the ID.3 and much else already.

When asked to comment on the rumours Ford told TG: “We are accelerating our efforts to go all-in on electrification and therefore review our vehicle portfolio in line with our business strategy.

“We do not comment on speculation and will share more information in the coming months.”

Hmm. Would you be sad to see the back of the Fiesta - and by extension, the Fiesta ST - in the near future?
