First video: the Bentley SUV

Published: 27 May 2014

Bentley is building an SUV. You know this because we told you so earlier this year. Now the Crewe company has released a particularly teasy teaser video, showing a few of the big SUV's lines.

Or possibly not. See, Bentley's tag line is that it ‘doesn't see lines', it sees light. So there's a lot of swooshy black-and-whiteness, but also firm evidence that the, ahem, controversial front of the EXP 9 F concept has, as promised, well and truly disappeared. We can also exclusively reveal that the production Bentley SUV will have wheels. And at least one door handle.

The ‘why a Bentley SUV?' bit is easy, too: one in every four luxury cars delivered worldwide in 2013 was a Bentley, and the luxury SUV market is burgeoning, particularly in China, Russia and the Middle East.

In fact, Bentley's marketing chief told TG.com a couple of months back that Bentley "wants to solve the problem for all those who want to spend more on an SUV." How generous.

As such, expect to pay more than even the most expensive Range Rover - that's over £140,000 - with Bentley predicting sales of around 3,500 cars per year. We suspect it won't be able to build 'em fast enough...
