Bentley has made the Continental GT Speed even faster

More power, more acceleration and a new 'Black Edition' for Bentley's super GT

Published: 04 Apr 2016

The Bentley Continental GT Speed wasn't exactly lacking in outright power, nor speed, nor acceleration. Whatever: today, we learn Bentley has gently increased these three super important metrics, to create an even more super GT.

The new Continental GT Speed's 6.0-litre W12 engine gets a modest power increase - 633bhp, up from 626bhp - and more torque (620lb ft).

So, where the old car recorded a 4.1s sprint to 60mph, this new, improved version will do it in just 3.9s, before rocking on to a top speed of 206mph (the same as the old Speed). It remains therefore, the fastest production Bentley ever built.

We're informed that torque increased was applied "through the entire rev range via careful reoptimisation of boost control, raising the Grand Tourer’s renowned “torque plateau” of continuous maximum torque delivery from 2,000-5,000 rpm", which of course, aided that acceleration figure. Also, boost

To celebrate the increased um, speed of the Speed, Bentley has introduced the 'Black Edition'; a trim special which comes with a high gloss black finish to the brightwork, 21in five-spoke black wheels, a contrast coloured front splitter, rear diffuser and side skirts, and lots of carbon fibre along the dashboard, among other things.

And how about this for a fun fact? It takes 110 hours to hand-build each Continental GT in Crewe - the engine along takes 30 Bentley engineers over 12 and a half hours to construct. Have a look through the pics above (of the Black Edition) and let us know what you think.
