The brand new Chevrolet Bolt is here, and it looks quite good
Chevy's electric car gets CES unveil, and promise of over 200 miles of range
At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, Chevrolet showed off the brand new, 2017 Bolt.
It will go into production at the end of this year, and GM reckons it’ll achieve over 200 miles on a full charge.
We’re told the diminutive Bolt EV benefits from the experience of Chevy Volt owners, and features such things as a driving range projection based on the time of day, typography, weather and driving habits.
It also gets a 10.2in colour touchscreen display mounted on a ‘floating’ instrument panel, a rear camera mirror, birds-eye vision to assist parking, lots of connectivity (naturally), EV navigation mapping that routes around nearby charging stations if needed, and even a gaming feature. This lets Bolt EV owners compete with each other to see who can achieve the best efficiency. Watch out Angry Birds.
Looks good though, doesn’t it? There’s a flat battery pack beneath the floor, a wide track and the look – says GM – of a small crossover. Lots of light thanks to huge windows all round, and a smart profile.
And this space, reckons GM, means it offers more rear storage than both the Honda Jazz and BMW i3 at over five cubic metres.
“Inside and out,” explains GM’s Stuart Norris, “this game-changing vehicle makes a dramatic statement with a distinctive identity that can only be a Chevy, and challenges expectations for what an affordable EV can offer.”
