BMW 7-Series news - 7-Series gets M Power - 2009
Don't get too excited. This isn't the new BMW M7. Sorry.
Instead, it's an official new M Sport package for the big ol' 7-Series, comprising a cheeky bodykit, bigger wheels and lots of M-branded bits on the inside.
Very nice, but we wanted an M7. Last year, BMW hinted that it might build a high-performance version of its luxury barge to compete with the Mercedes S63 and S65 AMG and blow the Audi S8 into the weeds. But now all is quiet on the M7 front.
OK, so this M Sport kit gives you a nice alcantara roof lining and carbon fibre bits, but we wanted an obscenely fast luxo-limo powered by something massive and turbocharged. A V12, please - the M3's got a V8, the M5's got a V10, so it only makes sense.
But there's no more power on offer with the M Sport kit. You can spec it on any 7-Series, from the base-spec 730d to the range-topping, 400bhp 750i. And even on the long wheelbase version, which makes absolutely no sense at all but we rather like it.
Know what we'd like more, BMW? Yep, an M7. Please?
