BMW 6-Series Coupe Concept news - BMW unveils 6-Series concept - 2010

Published: 20 Sep 2010

What you're looking at is the next-generation BMW 6-Series coupe. And what will immediately strike you is how un-ugly it has become.

This is important because as fine a car as the outgoing 6-Series coupe is - and it is indeed a fine chunk of Bavarian beef - it was never going to win a beauty contest. Less Miss Universe, more Miss Munich Beerfest '89.

And in the world of the Big Fat Businessman Express, this new BMW Concept 6-Series Coupe certainly looks capable enough of annoying all other road-users while transporting corporate types as they enjoy a spot of ‘back-end integration'.

BMW's press release doesn't give us the meat of the new 6-Series, but rather the parsley garnishing. So it will wear LED headlights with adaptive headlight technology, a head-up display and come fitted with a Bang & Olufsen premium stereo. Oh, and the iDrive gets a freestanding 10.2-inch control display. The likely engine range will start from something 3.0-litre shaped and upwards, so take your pick.

The Six will be officially unveiled at next week's Paris Motor Show, as will BMW's new X3. This comes with numerous storage compartments, some luggage space (1,600 litres), permanent four-wheel drive and, for the first time, the 3.0-litre turbocharged six with 306bhp. It also gets a completely new suspension setup and electric power steering. The new X3 will probably be better than the last one, which won't be difficult.

Anyway, back to the big Six. Less fussy than the SL but not as pretty as an XK - and a little bland if we're really honest. Still, imagine it with slightly swollen arches, a big power bulge on the bonnet, some 'M' vents and four exhausts. Oh yes...

What say you?
