Whatever happened to... the TranStar Dagger GT?
Could this have been America's Veyron Super Sport? Um, no
What is it?
America’s promise to build the world’s first 300mph supercar, back in 2010. Apparently inspired by the US’s storied love of drag racing, the Dagger was purported to offer 2,500bhp from a 9.4-litre bi-turbo V8. Madness.
But for California’s stricter emissions laws there was a more sensible 7.0-litre supercharged engine with a mere 836bhp. Take that, Hollywood.
Did they build any?
Absolutely not. Vapourware in the most classic sense, the Dagger was essentially a set of renderings and a website appealing for investors. Sensibly, no-one ponied up the cash required to take on Bugatti, and that was the last we ever heard of the Dagger.
Pity: we’d have loved to have seen a street-legal car complete a standing quarter-mile in 6.6 seconds… at 204mph.
Where are they now?
Nowhere to be seen – the website no longer exists and most references to the car online are to be found in lists of the most ridiculous fake supercars to have ever existed. Sorry, photoshopped.
