Thrills, spills and epic saves: here’s the footage you liked the most

Last year it was ghost cars in Russia, the year before that, a film trailer. 2015 then, serves up something rather more rudimentary but equally jaw-dropping.
We’re not going to spoil the surprise just yet – if indeed, it is a surprise – but this year’s list of your most watched videos on TopGear.com includes rather a few more spills than outright thrills.
Click on for the top ten.

What is it: Koenigsegg’s astonishing One:1 ‘megacar’ going stupendously quickly around the legendary Spa circuit.
What we said: “It’s further evidence that the Koenigsegg One:1 is officially in training for its much-anticipated assault on the outright production car record at the Nürburgring later this summer.
“Secondly, because the Koenigsegg One:1 is also officially off-the-scale quick. As in, wheelspinning-in-fourth quick. The driver in the video - ‘Segg factory helmsman Robert Serwanski - wasn’t even flat through Eau Rouge, and yet nailed a lap time of 2m33.26s. For the purposes of comparison, Marcus Ericsson’s Caterham-Renault F1 car last year managed a 2m14.44s qualifying lap.
“The One:1, remember, boasts a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 putting out 1340bhp - which, allied to a 1340kg kerbweight, means a power-to-weight ratio of, yep, one horsepower per kilo…”
9. Guy Martin vs Michael Dunlop, Ulster GP
What is it: Three and a bit minutes of bike footage showcasing professional sideburn enthusiast Guy duking it out with Michael Dunlop. On superbikes.
What we said: “With Guy Martin leading the opening four laps of the main superbike race, Dunlop managed to catch up, sparking a tremendous showdown of speed, ballsy late braking and impossibly committed overtakes round the 7.4-mile Northern Irish circuit.
“Hitting speeds in excess of 190mph on public roads – quite a feat considering the size and weight of man-veg the two riders must be carrying – they slipstream and jostle for position while swapping paint at eye-watering speeds. Eventually Dunlop brakes too late and drops his bike, an error allowing Guy to clinch his first international superbike race win of that year.”

What is it: Finnish Moto3 rider Niklas Ajo crosses the finish line sliding along on his knees.
What we said: “Getting a serious high-side wobble into the last corner on the final lap, the iron-willed Finn somehow clung onto his bike despite a significant excursion onto the grass.
Better still, Ajo coaxed the KTM back onto track, crossing the finish line in 17th place, adopting a pose we believe is known in riding circle as ‘the Cossack stance’.”
7. Is this the sneakiest racing move of all time?
What is it: Timo Scheider receives a radio message to ‘push him out’. Duly taps C-Class in front of him during Austrian round of this year’s DTM season.
What we said: “Timo Scheider, a double DTM champion, is the man standing accused. After being passed by Mercedes drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Robert Wickens on the final lap, approaching tricky turn two, he received the not-very-guarded radio message of “schieb ihn raus”.
“That translates as “push him out”. The fact Scheider’s car then tapped the rearmost C-Class into turn three – punting both Wehrlein and Wickens out of the race – ought to leave little to the imagination.”
6. Rally driver loses steering wheel, carries on
What is it: Erm, did you not read the title?
What we said: Pretty much what’s in the title.
5. Listen to the Koenigsegg Regera’s engine go on a dyno run
What is it: Koenigsegg straps the Regera’s engine – that’s a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with 1100bhp – to the dyno, and sets it loose.
What we said: “Koenigsegg has very kindly sent TopGear.com some footage, and you must watch it. It is footage of the Swedish firm’s upcoming Regera ‘mega car’ engine running through its paces, spinning – says Koenigsegg – from an effective 31mph to 217mph on a dyno.
“And it sounds bloody amazing.”

What is it: Dash-cam footage of a lightning-quick lorry driver reacting to a clumsy van driver.
What we said: “With nowhere to go and no chance of slowing down, the lorry barrelling along behind has to do something drastic.
“No problem, because the driver appears to be a Snake II sensei, avoiding an almighty shunt by slithering his articulated truck through a just-big-enough gap like a boss before coming to a stop.
“Anonymous trucker, TopGear.com proudly presents you with our inaugural award for Best Evasive Driving Manoeuvre Of 2015. Keep up the sterling work.”
3. Watch a Ferrari cause a Nissan GT-R to crash
What is it: A timely reminder that racing on the public road is bloody stupid.
What we said: “Watch this dashcam video from Taiwan, showing a 458 apparently road-racing a Nissan GT-R. As you’ll see, after splitting the camera car, the Ferrari driver moves across into the path of the GT-R, which is forced to brake and swerve onto the dusty central reservation.
“The Nissan driver loses control and taps a nearby car, sending it into a (well recovered) spin. The Ferrari, meanwhile, swans off into the middle distance.”

What is it: Um, a 2,000bhp, modified Lamborghini crashes into a lake.
What we said: “Yep, this Lamborghini Gallardo has been treated to a pair of twin-turbos strapped onto its V10 to make 2000bhp.
“All that power and no extra downforce also means things get… squirmy. Attempting a half-mile pass, the twin-turbo Gallardo loses control at a very high speed, and then veers right, off the track and straight into a lake.”
1. Lamborghini Huracan crashes at 200mph. On a public road
What is it: Though it happened last year, Hungarian police revealed dash-cam footage of a Huracan being totaled on the public road.
What we said: “It conveniently shows the driver of the lumino-green Huracan accelerating up past indicated speeds of 330kph (205mph) while overtaking on Hungary’s not-exactly-deserted M7 highway. And then… well, you’ll have to watch the video for yourself, but suffice to note it ends with a couple of photos of the aftermath, and they ain’t pretty.
“Though, thankfully, there were no fatalities, we’re told the mobile-wielding passenger suffered serious injuries in the crash, and that the 36-year-old driver faces charges of reckless driving and endangerment. The Lambo, needless to say, was a write-off.
“Take it easy out there, kids.”
