Beijing Motor Show

This QX Sport Inspiration is the next Infiniti SUV

Lengthily named Beijing concept previews a new F-Pace rival. Reckon it's a looker?

Published: 23 Apr 2016

It’s the Beijing motor show next week, but the concepts have started a little early. First up is this, the Infiniti QX Sport Inspiration.

As you can see, it’s an SUV, and it’s one which apparently showcases “a daring design philosophy and a demonstration of Infiniti’s capabilities in the mid-size SUV segment.”

So, it previews a new soft-roader, then. Given Infiniti’s current range of SUVs has been out rather a few years now, that’s probably a good thing.

It centres around Infiniti’s ‘Powerful Elegance’ design language, and as such, there’s lots of signature design cues this, and purposeful exterior that.

And it does look pretty neat, with lots of bold lines slashing across it and some trick headlights. There’s no mistaking its identity up front, either, with Infiniti seemingly taking some cues from cousin Renault when it comes to appropriate badge sizing.

The inside gives us some “guiding principles” for future Infiniti interiors, too, which will mark out distinct zones between the driver and passenger (handy when you’ve been bickering) while all four seats (rather than five, note) are designed to have their own personal space. We’re getting hints Infiniti’s designers are a shy lot.

While there’s also talk of the gearshift paddles and a driving mode selection dial, there’s no actual hint of what they operate. Being an Infiniti, you’d wager some kind of petrol-electric hybrid rather than the default diesel, but we’ll hopefully find out how warranted the ‘Sport’ of QX Sport Inspiration is soon.

In the meantime, what do you make of the looks? Enough to stand out from the Jaguar F-Pace, Porsche Macan, et al?
