This Bentayga is the perfect fishing companion

Planning a fishing trip? Then Bentley has the ideal hook to reel you in

Published: 19 Jul 2016

Close your eyes and picture the scene: you’re out in the wilderness, enjoying the pleasures of the natural world with a fishing rod in one hand and an ice cold beverage in the other.

After a lazy afternoon on the river you decide to call it a day, pack up your gear and return to the car along with a plentiful haul of salmon to smoke over the fire when you get home.

But here’s the question: in this vision of yours, what car are you driving?

Bentley very much hopes that it’s a Bentayga, and via their bespoke coachbuilding division they have come up with an exquisite optional extra that might just convince you to make it a reality the next time you plan a fishing trip.

The Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner has been hand-crafted with anglers in mind, with the focus on storage for all the fishing clobber you could imagine. Oh, and as you’d expect, virtually everything has been clad in leather. It is Bentley, after all.

Rods can be stored in four tubes located on the underside of the parcel shelf, while landing nets can be kept in a special compartment in the boot.

There’s also a ‘master tackle station’, which sits on a sliding tray so you can easily get at the Burr Walnut drawer containing items like cotton, hooks and feathers.

As for reels, as many as four can be housed in the specially-designed, machined-from-solid aluminium cases, and there are additional waterproof compartments for things like waders and boots.

There’s plenty of room for food too, and naturally this Bentayga contains a provision of fine china with which to consume it.

“The Bentayga Fly Fishing car showcases the breadth and level of detail a customer can expect from Mulliner,” says Director Geoff Dowding. “This is an individual bespoke solution and our skilled craftspeople can design elegant and exquisitely executed bespoke solutions to complement any customer lifestyle or hobby.

“Fly fishing is a sport that requires a variety of equipment and clothing, so it was essential to package the rods, reels, waders, boots and fly-tying station into the car in a luxurious, accessible and elegant way – and the end result is truly extraordinary.”

Is there a catch? Aside from the fish, yes. The standard Bentayga is £160,000, but one kitted out for fishing will set you back an extra eighty grand, bringing the price almost up to a quarter of a million pounds.

So what do you think? Eely desirable or just plain carp?
