  • 1952 Ferrari 340 Mexico Coupe

A rare 1952 Ferrari 340 has sold at auction for a quite astonishing £2.6 million.

The ‘Mexico Vignale Coupe' was one of just three 340s built and came from the private collection of Larry Nicklin.

Ol' Lars - as he's not known around these parts - is a former GM designer and co-founder of the Ferrari Club of America, and also offered up a 1953 Ferrari 212 Inter Vignale Coupe at the Amelie Island sale.

His old 340 is quite a car too, scoring third place at the 1952 La Carrera Panamericana, and was the most successful of the Ferrari team cars for that race. Nestled in those classic lines is a 4.1-litre V12 with 280bhp, mated to a five-speed gearbox. A fierce bidding war pushed the price half a million up from its £2 million estimate, but it wasn't the only star on show.
