VW Carerra Cup Caddy van news - Tip of the iceberg... – 2008
A Porsche Carrera Cup edition of the VW Caddy van? This can't be real, can it?
Thing is, we're pretty sure it is. Though VW UK says it doesn't know anything about the Carrera Cup Caddy, by all accounts it seems to be an official edition released by VW Sweden, and limited to just 250 models.
Powered by VW's standard 2.0-litre 138bhp turbodiesel, the Carrera Cadd is merely a cosmetic effort, but an impressive one at that. There's a full bodykit, that distinctive red-on-white paint scheme, 17-inch black wheels and a rather swish two-tone leather interior.
'Performance' editions of vans aren't anything new - indeed, VW released a Harley Davidson Caddy a while back - but the Porsche/VW tie-up is an intriguing one.
See, Porsche has spent the last few months buying up VW shares to hold a controlling share in the company - it currently owns a 31 per cent stakeholding - with VW resisting strongly.
And this very week, VW Chief Exec Martin Winterkorn threatened to resign if Porsche interfered with his brand's operations. We can't imagine he'll be too impressed to see the Carrera Cup Caddy.
