Watch McLaren’s 675LT get very sideways on track

666bhp ‘Super Series’ McLaren gets let off the leash at Castelloli. Tyre smoke and speed ensues

Published: 14 Jul 2015

Think McLaren’s road cars sit on the ‘sensible’ side of the supercar fence? Hmm. Here is a video of Woking's newest creation – the 675 LT – proving very much that the turbo V8 two-seater is not sensible.

The 675 LT – that’s short for ‘Longtail’, of course – is, in essence, a lighter, harder and more powerful version of the 650S, and rival to the new Ferrari 488 GTB. And though it’s road legal, McLaren has honed it for the track.

So in this new video, McLaren is keen to emphasise just how ‘track’ the 666bhp, Ferrari 488-rivalling supercar is. It’s shot at Castelloli, home to Top Gear magazine’s Speed Week 2014, and a very Senior Circuit. And judging by the amount of opposite lock being administered, many tyres were hurt in the making of this film.

You want some stats on the 675LT? Of course you do. It’s got a 3.8-litre V8 with lightweight turbochargers, new cams, lighter connecting rods and a faster fuel pump than the 650S.

There’s also a brand new titanium exhaust system, which you will hear in the video. There is that devilish horsepower output, and 516lb ft of torque. It’ll do 0-62mph in 2.9s, 0-124mph in 7.9s, and top out at 205mph. Extra aero – most notably that vast, active rear wing – improves downforce, while extra carbon fibre and a thinner windscreen improve kerbweight.

Cast your eyes over that lush green paint, too – a shade termed, in the 675LT brochure, 'Blitzed Kermit'.

Not really.

Enough info, though. Just sit back, turn it up and enjoy a bright green supercar doing some skids.
