What’s your favourite AMG model?

Published: 09 Sep 2014

Any company that nicknames one of its creations after the preferred fixing apparatus used by any self-respecting TG staffer immediately gets our attention. That company is of course, AMG. And the car?

The Hammer.

1986 was the year that gave birth to one of the most recognisable - and mad - AMG creations in history, the 5.6-litre, V8-engined 385bhp Merc 300E (it would later rise to 6.0-litres, because more). And this from a company that named its first motorsport creation ‘The Red Pig'. Suffice to say, they don't name ‘em like they used to.

It's important to remember this because tonight, AMG will reveal the latest and much anticipated model in its lineup, and arguably one of the most important launches in its long and colourful history. It's the AMG GT, a small supercar set to battle the likes of the Jaguar F-Type and Porsche 911.

We'll have the full reveal for you here on TopGear.com later tonight, but we wanted to take stock for a moment and just ruminate on the company's 47-year history. With humble beginnings - two engineering friends servicing and tuning 300 SEs in a barn in Burgstall - to building things like the SLS Black Series, AMG has come a long way.

And with cars like The Hammer, The Red Pig and those monster Black Series motors to count in its roster, it's fair to say they've had a good run.

So ahead of the Big Launch, we want you to tell us your favourite AMG model and why you picked it. We've included a few pics above to get the juices flowing, and a few links below to sate your thirst for all things AMG. Warning: may contain STIG.
